Sun Opposite Neptune: Grief, Compassion, & longing

The Sun in Virgo opposes Neptune in Pisces tomorrow on September 19th, 2023.

This is often experienced as a more difficult transit as Neptune, god of the seas, opens the floodgates of emotions like grief, uncertainty, overwhelm, sadness, anxiety, and the sense that what we most want out of life is way over there, out of reach and unattainable.

If you struggle with depression or anxiety, this is a good time to reach out to your support system, to self-soothe in non-harmful ways, and to be gentle with yourself, not expecting too much.

Most of us are scared of emotions like sadness and despair, as contacting them can feel like a never-ending hole of darkness. But, the more we can turn towards these feelings rather than away, the more we can hold the parts of us that are longing to be held, to be seen, to be heard, and to be known.

Just as every child deserves the loving attention of an adult, so do you too, deserve the loving attention of your SELF- the core part of you that doesn’t end— that is pure, loving, eternal, and good.

Side note** This transit may also manifest more literally/physically such as having to deal with flooding or other technical water system problems.

It’s a time to rest and take a break from the realities of this world, as this transit suggests having over-stressed your nervous system.

Get in a flow state, whatever that is to you! Whether it be dance, music, meditation, chess, movies, romance novels, or anything else, find the activity that transports you to that timeless place where you just get to exist, without tasks or to-do lists or the other things Virgo thrives on (and that we so need for daily functioning!)

If you discover disappointments or disillusionments, welcome those too. If you find unrealized dreams or longings, say hello!

And maybe observe the thoughts that weave stories in our heads that so often lead to our suffering.

Consider these possibilities: that you are exactly where you need to be…

that you are perfect as you are…

that you too deserve compassion…

Consider the possibility for love to be the gem hidden in your pain when you turn towards it with open arms.

Mercury Cazimi: Insights and clarity

(Posting late)

On Monday, Mercury (currently retrograde) made a trine to Jupiter (a 120 degree aspect), bringing a good time to send a message, make a request, receive good news, embody an optimistic mindset, and feel a sense of confidence and purpose.

The Sun makes a trine to Jupiter on Friday, echoing these themes all week long!

Today, however, on September 6th, 2023, Mercury conjoins the Sun. This is called a cazimi, which occurs when any planet enters the heart of the Sun and is blessed with its rays, bringing light or awareness to you around the themes of the planet.

It’s a good time to reflect and get in touch with your psyche, as Mercury is planet of the mind.

An insight may emerge, connected to what this Mercury retrograde is about for you.

Or, it could be connected to communication (how you think, patterns of communicating with others, or a miscommunication being cleared up).

Something may come to light around a business deal/event (if there were missing pieces before), an answer to a tech glitch may be resolved, or maybe you find a solution to some general problem you’ve been experiencing.

Most notably, though, an answer or insight may come to you where this retrograde is occurring, which is whatever house that has Virgo on the cusp in your birth chart.

Whatever it is, create some space for reflection and contemplation.

Find some quiet time to allow the magic that is Mercury to infiltrate your mind and bring you the answers you didn’t know were inside of you.

Abundance & Gratitude: venus enters cancer and jupiter enters taurus

Jupiter is soon entering Taurus -on May 16th- the sign where Mercury has been retrograding for some time.

We’ve been rethinking, renegotiating, and reviewing the area of our charts that have Taurus on the cusp.

Taurus is a sign that wants stability- that dislikes change. Thus, renegotiating things in this area might feel uncomfortable. And that might also include basic Taurus things: money, land/property, our personal possessions, and the things that bring pleasure to our physical senses.

With Jupiter entering this territory, some help is given: a new perspective, a sense of abundance, grace perhaps.

Simultaneously, Venus just entered Cancer, where Mars has been grumpily trudging along, poking at our innermost sense of security or trying to gain it through a roundabout, indirect way- crab style.

Venus brings connection, peace, and beauty to this area, smoothing over the spikes and prickles that Mars might have brought forth… perhaps igniting a renewed sense of emotional safety to the area of our charts that contain Cancer AND to our home life, emotional life, and family life (Cancer themes).

This all should feel like a relief, especially after the huge upheaval/purge that the recent Scorpio Eclipse brought.

Sometimes we try to feel safe and secure (Taurus and Cancer themes) through clinging onto things and being needy, forever trying to find a sense of abundance outside of ourselves.

Jupiter entering Taurus and Venus entering Cancer reminds us that we are our own anchor points- that gratitude for what already is and what we already have can actually expand the web of contentment.

That enough is already here.

Venus in Gemini square Saturn in Pisces: Boundaries, Commitment, and light-hearted love

Venus in Gemini square Saturn in Pisces on Friday wants sustainability in relationships.

How do we make relationships last?

Well, we make rules and agreements for engagement.

And this transit might have us having conversations around restructuring a partnership or a relationship, talking about boundaries, or centering our values so that we are acting more in accordance with them within our connections.

This transit isn’t soft and ooey gooey. It might feel harsh. It might feel rejecting. It could feel limiting. Maybe you get some feedback. But it might also feel really good ultimately to know the container of a relationship so everyone can feel safe and direct their efforts accordingly.

Venus in Gemini wants light hearted fun and flirty connections. Saturn, on the other hand, reminds us of what’s important over the long haul and also reminds us of the consequences of playing around.

It’s not that playing around or having more casual relationships is bad if that’s what’s happening… it’s that they can be more enjoyable when we know what we are getting into, what everyone wants, and what the rules of the game are.

This could also be about making more structure around a creative project or someone you’re collaborating with and getting more serious.

Or perhaps you’re wanting to dip your toes in something non-committal while the other person is looking for a solid yes or no.

Regardless, negotiating or having a more clear understanding of what you want in relationships and communicating that will be the key.

Full Moon in Libra conjunct Chiron: Healing Relational Wounds

Tomorrow, April 5th, the Full Moon in Libra illuminates a hurt.

Chiron, the wounded healer, has been featured significantly over the course of the last month’s Astrology. What with Venus, Jupiter, and Mercury having passed over Chiron, we’ve gotten more than a taste of what this asteroid is reflecting to us.

So, why is our pain being emphasized even more?

Well, the 2 luminaries, the Sun and Moon, bring light to things. The Moon brings light to what was dark before and the Sun brings clarity and insights as it transfers its brightness to the planetary bodies it passes over.

This probably isn’t the beginning of a story around pain, but the continuation of it and will possibly highlight the origin story of where the wound comes from (usually from childhood). Or, perhaps why the wound hurts so much…

Since the Full Moon is in Libra, a sign about relationships, while the Sun is in Aries, a sign about the self and independence, we can also expect the pain to be connected to issues of relationship.

When do I stretch for you to meet your needs and when do I do what I need and want for myself?

When do I collaborate or when do I go at it alone? If I choose independence, how might that hurt the other?

Or vice versa: if I choose togetherness, how might that hurt myself?

These are questions to consider during Luna’s swell.

Whatever comes up, notice the sensations in your body and allow the emotions to flow forth.

Welcome them as you tend to your innermost needs, finding the wisdom you’ve gained through the pain you’ve endured.

Whatever story has been spinning around what hurts, it could also be useful to ask yourself: is this story true? Are there other alternatives?

What are your needs behind the hurt? How can you ask for those needs to be met and grieve the ones that can’t by others?

Mercury squares Pluto

Tomorrow, Mercury, planet of the mind enters Taurus and immediately squares Pluto, lord of the underworld and the things that feel of life or death stakes.

You may notice:

-having more intense thoughts and conversations than usual

-having thoughts that are related to crisis and survival/security

-having thoughts around death and what doesn’t last

-having deeper insights into your own psyche (good time to journal)

-having more honest and real conversations with people

-increased anxiety

-power struggles

-News around people abusing power, an injustice highlighted, or secrets being revealed

-intense thoughts around the future/sustainability/climate change (Taurus is a sign about the earth)

-more futuristic talks about technology and societal “progress” (Pluto is in Aquarius, a sign about technological advances and society at large)

This transit can help us get in touch with what’s really important to us and the reality of what we need to change as a society for our survival.

It can also create unhelpful mental stress and anxiety, so be sure not to take your thoughts too seriously while also giving space to the emotions that might be underneath the mental overwhelm.

Pluto enters Aquarius

On March 23rd, 2023 Pluto, lord of the underworld, entered Aquarius for a sneak peak preview of what this 20 year long transit will be about.

Pluto will be in Aquarius from March 23rd-June 11th, 2023 this time around.

Pluto unearths. Pluto transforms. Pluto initiates deep seated changes. Pluto transits can be intense, cathartic, obsessive, and passionate.

Pluto is sometimes seen as scary because of these qualities, but Pluto transits are not bad or always hard.

Pluto helps us to get to the bottom of something and helps us evolve into a new shape. Pluto can bring a sense of power or justice to something.

Pluto can be the force that helps you push through to make something happen that you otherwise wouldn’t.

If you have planets or angles (1st, 4th, 7th, or 10th houses) in the fixed signs (Aquarius, Taurus, Leo, or Scorpio), Pluto moving into Aquarius will be more felt and more impactful for you.

While this transit will be personal to you depending on which planets are impacted, what houses those planets rule, and which new house Pluto will be entering, there are some general signatures that we can expect to see.

Aquarius is a sign about the group, the community at large, friends, technology, and ideology.

This could be a time where transformations occur within friend groups, organizations, or communities you’re part of.

We may see large shifts in technology on a macro level that reflect both the darkest corners of the human psyche as well as the most valuable.

Ideologies could become more rigid, as Aquarius is a fixed sign and already has high ideals of how the world ought to be and sometimes little tolerance for anything less than that.

Aquarius is known for its humanitarian quality. At best, this transit will unearth a revolution for the common-person, the layman so that the marginalized, underrepresented, and oppressed may take their place back at the table again or for the very first time.

Jupiter conjunct Chiron and Mars square Neptune: the courage to heal

Yesterday on March 10th, Jupiter, planet of growth and healing met up with Chiron, an asteroid about where we have a wound.

This could have resulted in a pain being amplified. Or, it could be a time where we put some balm on it, where healing can occur.

If you are Aries, Libra, Capricorn, or Cancer rising, this energy may be more pronounced. Similarly, if you have personal planets close to 14 degrees of those signs, this energy may be more felt.

Simultaneously, Mars, god of war, anger, and conflict is approaching the 3rd and final square with nebulous Neptune on Tuesday, the 14th (as the Sun and Mercury conjoin with Neptune a day after, adding to the confusing flames).

Neptune, in a square aspect, can often create confusion, deception, or delusions.

This could create the following situations:

-an old wound from the past flairing up by a recent situation

-feelings of anger arising (often covering up hurt) and not knowing what to do

-someone being upset with you but not telling you (or vice versa)

-healing from a recent conflict but being confused on next steps

-flare-ups in the body

Mars is also a planet about our desires and how we pursue them.

Thus, these transits could bring up confusion around what you want. Depression or anxiety could increase around this time as well.

These murky waters can clear the more time we sit with them & curiously explore.

With Mercury, god of the mind and communications, approaching Neptune and a square with Mars, communications could get sharp and foggy.

This is a GREAT time to check yourself on thinking errors that lead to suffering, misunderstandings, and miscommunications.

If there’s some hurt, ask yourself whether it’s the current situation or if ghosts from the past are visiting. Maybe it’s both.

What does mending look like?

On top of all of this, Venus, goddess of love and our values is squaring Pluto, lord of the underworld, on Thursday March 16th.

Some open and direct conversations may be necessary regarding agreements in relationships, how we feel valued (or not), or the pain that arises when desires don’t match up.

It’s hard to be honest when we feel hurt but that’s exactly what these transits are inviting us to do.

Venus conjunct Neptune while the Sun conjoins Saturn

We just had Venus conjoin with Neptune on Feb 15th (which you may continue to notice through the weekend) and we are about to have the Sun join up with Saturn today, Feb 16th (which you may have noticed since Tuesday).

Venus and Neptune together can signify disappointment in love, disillusionment in desire, putting someone up on a pedestal or having romantic fantasies, or grieving a relationship or the loss of something once beautiful.

On the other hand, Neptune is said to be the higher octave of Venus, goddess of love and connection (in modern astrology). Your experience could also be that you’ve had even more connection with others than usual, more beautiful and creative experiences than usual, or a more open and forgiving heart than usual.

While this has been happening in one area of your life (whichever house that has Pisces on the cusp), the Sun conjunct Saturn may be leaving a heavier more constrictive feeling in another area of life (whichever house that has Aquarius on the cusp).

Saturn is a planet about boundaries, rules, and the things that test us. It’s a planet signifying authority figures, difficulties, or where we are told no.

Maybe you receive harsh feedback from someone, or perhaps you’re experiencing consequences of earlier actions. You may be figuring out your boundaries or coming up against someone else’s, which could feel bad in the moment. It could be that you’ve reached your limits with something and it’s time to move on.

Saturn also rules over commitment and the things that stand the test of time. Maybe you lean in more with something or someone, creating new agreements that fit you better now. Or perhaps, you’re letting go.

Whatever is going on, try doing both Venus and Saturn.

Where can you be more squishy and receptive? Where can you find more ease in relating to others?

Where has enough been enough? Or how can you strengthen your commitments?

If receiving harsh feedback and you’re feeling your inner critic, where is that critic in your body?

Just notice, breathing into it, staying present to whatever arises.

Then, bring some self-compassion to that part of you that might be feeling like you didn’t do enough, that you’re failing, or you’re not good enough.

Full Moon in Leo: the Courage to Be Who You Are

We are approaching a Full Moon in Leo that is square to Uranus on Sunday, February 5th.

Full Moons are moments of culmination, release, snd something coming to full light.

Leo is a sign about the self- how one shines and authentically expresses their true nature.

Uranus is a planet about freedom, unexpected changes, revelations, and revolution.

This configuration may have you expressing something you’ve been needing to say for a while, making changes that are long overdue to support the REAL you, or breaking free from something oppressive that hasn’t been nurturing your true self.

The moment has come to make the necessary changes to support YOU.

What are you wanting?

Simultaneously we are approaching a square between Venus in Pisces and Mars in Gemini on Saturday, February 4th.

These energies have been building all week!

A relationship you have with someone could get tense, as things that have been gurgling beneath the surface during Mars’ retrogade are bubbling up. This may be a make it or break it moment.

Maybe it’s time to leave. Maybe it’s time to address some conflict. Maybe it’s time to stand up for yourself.

It could also be a time of courage in matters of the heart or in matters of love.

You could finally get the guts to tell someone how you feel about them.

Or decide to go after something you’ve been desiring.

Use the energy this weekend to step into the bravery and audacity it takes to say what or who you like, what you want, and who you are... and step towards situations and people you like or step away from ones you don’t.

Maturity, Endings, and Boundaries in Relationships

We have a New Moon forming in Aquarius today (Saturday, January 21st) as Venus, goddess of love, beauty, and joy conjoins with Saturn, lord of boundaries, maturity, and hard work, tomorrow (January 22nd).

Thus, this New Moon may be related to new beginnings in relational dynamics or with regards to pleasure, art projects, or collaborations.

This might be related to Venus’s recent contact with Uranus or not. If you were feeling up and down in relation to someone last week, this transit may provide the stable energy to talk about things, to agree on new rules or boundaries, or perhaps to end things.

Saturn is a planet about trials and lessons. We may be put in a position to grow in our relationships and pleasure-pursuits through a variety of ways.

For instance, having a heart to heart about hurt feelings or needs in relationships isn’t always easy, but it brings an intimacy that not much else can match.

Or, maybe it’s time to put in longer hours or more effort into a passion -get more serious about it.

Perhaps you become inspired to get really minimalistic, keeping only the things that inspire you or that you really love.

Or, maybe it’s time to go deeper in with someone- commit to something more serious. After all, Saturn represents that which brings satisfaction through time and age, like a fine wine.

Whatever it is, we are starting a cycle of cultivating a more mature relationship to others, to our pleasure-pursuits, and to how we grow beauty in our lives.

How can you do this, step by step?

Sun conjunct Pluto while Mercury stations Direct

Mercury stations direct today on January 18th in Capricorn on the same day that the Sun conjoins Pluto in Capricorn. Whatever we’ve been reviewing and processing, we’re ready to move forward with.

Sun conjunct Pluto gives an intense energy. Pluto is everything beneath the surface. The Sun is like a spotlight, highlighting where our consciousness is. New awarenesses around something dark or previously hidden may have been culminating over the last few days.

Pluto is also a planet about existential anxieties and fears and how that impacts what our perceived needs and instincts for survival are, some of which aren’t pretty or necessarily true.

For instance, a perceived need for power over others suggests at one’s core a deep-seated sense of danger and lack of safety. The perceived need for a lot of money also reflects this.

Thus, this aspect could be reflecting a power-dynamic that exists in your life, an injustice that impacts you, or where you might feel a sense of crisis. It could highlight where you feel powerless… or perhaps powerful (I hope this is the case!).

Pluto being a planet about life or death circumstances could bring up a trigger from a trauma, an incident where we felt unsafe or actually were unsafe. This could be anywhere from relationship anxiety from not having had one’s emotional needs met as a child (anxiously/avoidantly attached anyone?) to triggers related to an actual near death experience to situations where something happened to us where we lost agency.

If you’ve been feeling triggered, obsessive, compulsive, or anxious, there is likely a reason! This is a good time to seek support and inquire more deeply into your own consciousness the reasons behind your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.

What was hurt and what may need healing or compassion?

Other possibilities are:

-feeling dark or depressed (perhaps more than usual if you struggle with depression)

-being pre-occupied/obsessive over something

-recognizing where you do have power

-a sudden need for control

-something revealed about one’s father, a famous person, or leader (represented by the Sun)

-feeling alone or disconnected and the sense of crisis around that (Venus IS approaching a conjunction with Saturn)

Venus Square Uranus: Break-ups or Breakthroughs

Venus squares Uranus on Saturday, January 14th (which you may have noticed all week) and then conjoins Saturn on Sunday, January 22nd.

When Venus, goddess of love, beauty, sex, connection, joy, and all things pleasurable, comes into a challenging aspect with Uranus, god of unexpected changes and disruptions, Venusian things are also disrupted or changed. Sometimes the disruptions are breakups of some kind and sometimes they’re breakthroughs.

This might look like:

-literally breaking up with a partner

-a sense of shakiness or ups and downs with a partner

-having an unexpected conversation with a partner

-desires revealed to open relationships up

-creating more freedom in relationships in some way

-upgrading your sex life (whatever that means to you)

-making a drastic change to your style (just getting that tattoo or haircut!)

-a desire to try out a new hobby

-discovering something new about your sexuality or orientation

-experimentation in matters of love, sex, and connection

-impulsively buying clothes, jewelry, or something shiny (whatever appeals to you)

-breakthroughs in an art project or collaboration

It’s my opinion that these shake-ups happen for the sake of innovation or breaking free from something. But sometimes they might be due to being bored, impulsivity, something arising that needed expression, or are seemingly random.

After Venus plays with Uranus, she gets serious with Saturn, god of hard work, commitment, boundaries, and life lessons…

More on this one next week!

How is Venus/Uranus showing up for you? I’d love to hear in the comments 🙂

Mars stations Direct in Gemini

Mars is stationing direct today, January 12th, at 8 degrees Gemini (have any planets around 8 degrees of Gemini or the other mutable signs- Virgo, Sagittarius, or Pisces? You’ll be more impacted.)

This is a big moment, which we will start feeling quite slowly, as Mars is still moving very slowly.

Mars has been retrograde since October 30th, 2022, suggesting that we’ve been in hibernation in many ways since then and taking a pause to reflect. What have you been reviewing? hint: look at the house in your chart that contains Gemini).

Mars is a planet about action, how we are motivated, how we fight, and how we engage with conflict (or don’t).

Whatever you’ve been mulling over over the last few months (perhaps even since August when Mars first entered Gemini), clarity may start to emerge about what to do, where to go, or how to address an issue.

Or, perhaps you’ve been waiting for something from someone during this retrograde and you’re finally starting to get answers or actively ask for them.

Questions to ask yourself:

Where is there a need for a new strategy with regards to what you want?

What have you been reflecting on regarding your anger or how you confront people?

What has changed about your courage and willingness to take risks?

Other general themes we’ve been reviewing include:

How we take action

How we take a stand for or against something

How we engage with conflict (or avoid it)

How we scatter our energy

How we are motivated (or unmotivated)

How we can better nourish our nervous systems

Mars will be in Gemini until March 25th 2023, giving us ample time to make the necessary changes we’ve been contemplating or to move forward in areas of life that have felt challenging or that have been on pause.
