Mars is approaching its opposition to Saturn and square to Uranus. This is in effect between now and July 6th. Saturn is lord of discipline, commitment, responsibility, and all that takes time and hard work. Uranus is planet of freedom, change, and innovation. This pair together in and of itself is enough for a nervous breakdown. But then throw Mars in the mix, fiery god of speed and haste, and everything that’s moving at a glacier pace all of a sudden feels very urgent.
Anger could come up that something is taking longer than expected. Or maybe you’re doing too much too soon and running out of steam. What is inherently slow to develop cannot be rushed. That which takes time and careful practice does not do well with impatience. Whatever promises results doesn’t like flakiness. In order to embark on a long journey, we need to make sure we’re properly feeding ourselves.
It could also be that you have a sudden realization that something’s just not working. Or perhaps a commitment you’ve made is no longer feeling right for you. You can’t force a circle into a square peg.
It’s important that what we are devoted to fits our true nature, otherwise, what’s the point? Are you staying in or doing something because it’s what’s expected? Or because you think you should? Or will you harness the bravery it takes to say when something is no longer working for you, even when it’s safe and predictable?
Breakthroughs are amongst us, that while may not change our overall life course (or perhaps will), do alter the details. The question to ask yourself is whether or not you’re acting from your heart. Mars and Uranus can be impulsive planets, spurring us to behave instinctively and reactively, without considering the consequences. However, Saturn can also be that oppressive voice within ourselves that functions from a place of fear and an overdeveloped sense of responsibility. What we aren’t taught is that listening to our gut is the most responsible thing we could ever do.
This transit is equivalent to feeling trapped between a brick wall and a hot place, and finding the escape route last minute. While Uranus poses that you up and leave the situation, Saturn says you’re not done. Yet, Mars urges you to move forward when it may feel like there’s no where to go.
You have options. Adjustments can be made without giving up everything you’ve worked towards. The heart is an intelligence not widely valued in our society. We are encouraged to do what “makes sense” instead of what makes our bodies feel alive or at home. While our prefrontal cortex is an important piece of helping us make decisions, it’s our heart that has true wisdom.
Mars is in Leo, the sign associated with the heart. Mars is also associated with courage. It takes courage to follow the whisperings of our hearts. If we don’t, we remain safe within the old plan, but also trapped in the betrayal of ourselves. This leads us to miss out on truly responding to life with our own aliveness, which is deadening.
So, while Saturn says you’re going somewhere that takes time and discipline, perhaps Mars and Uranus are reminding you that there are alternative paths to the same peak. Or maybe they’re telling you that your immediate needs come first. In order to commit to the long haul, we need to make sure we are nurturing our authentic selves. Otherwise, we’ll run out of gas.
Breathe through this week. Take note of what you truly want each day (or what you think you want). Gather information, yet don’t act immediately. There is time. Course corrections happen. Practice listening. Your body knows when something is a yes (hint- it feels freeing, relieving, and good!).
