Today, Mars enters Taurus after 6 months of being in Aries. Mars is what we do, how we take action in the world and the way we extend our energy. Mars’s nature is to be lightning fast and instinctual. In Taurus, however, Mars must slow things down, going at a pace Mars doesn’t like. Taurus is steady, thorough, patient, and goes at his own pace. Similarly, we may find ourselves needing to sustain something that is uncomfortable or frustrating while Mars is here until March 5th. Mars is also how we fight. In Taurus, he’s slow to anger, but once the bull’s angry, you can’t calm him down. Taurus is about embodiment, beauty, the land, and sensual pleasures. We may be more motivated to focus on our bodies, whether through adorning ourselves with art, jewelry, or through getting a massage. Food becomes more of a focus. Have you been enjoying what you eat? If enjoyment is lacking, Taurus is asking, then what’s the point?
Mars runs into some trouble while in Taurus, which is immediately felt because he’s now in a position to square Saturn and conjoin Uranus. But first, he squares Mercury on Friday, January 8th, giving us a quick tongue. Often, the cat that’s let out of the bag needed to be let out. Maybe you say a needed-to-be-said truth you’ve been hiding from yourself or someone else. Perhaps you let slip what you really think of someone. Mars hits a square to Saturn on January 13th, stopping us in our tracks. Mars wants to go and Saturn says no, or that you must work extra hard to get what you want. January is an intense month astrologically because Mars is highlighting the Uranus/Saturn square which is happening all of 2021. I’ve written about this extensively in other blog posts (see my blog post The Start of a New Era), but essentially, Uranus is a planet about revolution and rebellion while Saturn represents what’s established- those in charge. The planets are not bi-partisan. Protests and rebellious acts from all sides are up this year.
Mars conjoins Uranus, god of disruption and chaos, on January 20th. In an earth sign, don’t be surprised if there are physical uprising and uprooting somewhere in the world, whether man or nature-induced. For you personally, you may feel the need to break free from something, but be sure that what you’re severing from is something you truly don’t want. Mars and Uranus together tend to be an impulsive and explosive combo. There will be major push back this year and the next in the collective. What’s established will be revolted against and the rules that are in place will be broken. Whether we are revolting blindly in the name of misinformation, conspiracy theories, or prejudice or whether we are rebelling against systemic oppression, lack of action taken on climate change, or other injustices is up to us.
Think carefully about what you’re fighting for and why. Think carefully about where you get your information from. Violence towards others is never the answer, although we may be seeing a lot of it this year. Take care of yourselves. And remember, not all revolutions are for the right reasons. Some are meant to keep things the way they’ve always been such as keeping the same people in power while others are meant to tear down walls of oppression. Which side are you on?
